Katrina Grabner
She/her
I am an Art Therapist (RCAT) and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), registered as a Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in British Columbia and a Professional Art Therapist (ATPQ) in Quebec.
For over fifteen years, I supported adults, youth, and children who experienced trauma through front-line and counselling roles in East Vancouver, including the Stopping the Violence and PEACE programs, where I worked with survivors of abuse, developmental trauma, and family violence. My approach integrates art therapy and somatic experiencing in work with both individuals and groups.
Now based in Montréal, I teach in Concordia University’s Creative Arts Therapies master’s program. I continue to have a private practice where I also provide supervision and consultation to art therapists and other practioners exploring trauma-informed approaches to the creative arts therapies and work with groups and clients of all ages.
My framework is collaborative, trauma-aware, neurodivergent-affirming, attachment-informed, and anti-oppressive.
I have completed Levels I & II of Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST) with Janina Fisher. In addition, I have training in play therapy and eco-arts expressive approaches, and I completed the workshop on SE Perspective on Systemic Trauma and Shame. I am currently completing a certificate in Somatic Sexuality Healing with SE faculty Ariel Giaretto.
As a PhD candidate at Concordia, my research explores art therapy approaches informed by Somatic Experiencing. At the university I am also developing a faculty interest group on trauma-informed pedagogy and healing centered engagement in higher education. I am always happy to nerd out on any of the above mentioned topics.
